The importance of wheels
The importance of wheels?! Duh! Of course wheels are important – a bike wouldn’t be much use without them. But an increasing number of people are coming to realize that wheels hold the key to getting the very best performance out of a bike. Many years ago the advice always used to be, 1. Buy the best frame you can afford, and 2. Buy the best wheels you can afford. Everything else was of peripheral importance and could be upgraded over time as funds allowed. Well folks, nothing’s changed. What has changed however is the type and quality of wheels available. The advent of composite carbon fibre and the increasing use of wind tunnels to develop wheel design has transformed ‘good’ wheels from simply being lightweight to being one of the key components in transforming a bike from being merely good to great.
However this performance comes at a cost. While good wheels can be purchased for a few hundred pounds, the best ones cost thousands – often more than the bike they’re fitted to.
Hiring wheels is a great way to experience the performance benefits while minimizing the wallet draining capacity the very best wheels can have. At Totally Bikes we have fleet of some of the best wheels money can buy. We initially focused on ENVE wheels because of their hard earned reputation for superb aerodynamics, excellent braking surfaces and whether built around DTSwiss or Chris King hubs – bomb proof reliability. We still hold fast to these qualities, but we’re seeking to add other brands to our wheel portfolio. Check back or call us for more information on +44 7917 231934.
